The Materials
Our leather blanket carrier is made from full grain Italian vegetable tanned leather.
Vegetable tanned refers to the tanning method used to transform the raw hide into leather. It is an ancient method of tanning that can take several months It uses natural materials such as tree bark.
Full grain means that it is the full thickness of the hide. It has not been thinned down at all. This will make the product very strong and hardwearing.
The carrier fastens securely with solid brass roller buckles.
The Blanket
The leather carrier comes complete with a quality wool blanket. Each blanket has beautiful colour detail and is woven from recycled wool which is re-spun into a soft fabric. Because they are created in this way every blanket is unique. No two can ever be exactly the same.
The blanket measures approximately 150cm x 183cm and is machine washable.
The Making
Each strap is carefully cut from the hide by hand. The edges of the handles and straps are then bevelled, dyed and burnished. This makes the strap softer on the hand and more comfortable to carry. The harness is then assembled using strong brass rivets to match the solid brass roller buckles.
The Using
Undo the buckles to release the rolled blanket. Lay blanket on the ground. Sit down and enjoy.
Keep one handy for all your outdoor activities. Useful to keep in the car for adventures further afield.
The harness can also be used to carry items other than the blanket when hiking, camping or biking.
